Red is for the blood He gave.
Green is for the grass He made.
Yellow is for the sun so bright.
Orange is for the edge of night.
Black is for the sin we made.
White is for the grace He gave.
Purple is for His hour of sorrow.
Pink is for our new tomorrow.
A bag full of jelly beans, colorful and sweet
Is a prayer, a promise, a loved one’s treat!

After a grueling winter, historical performances and feasts, the students are preparing for the celebration of Easter. There will be a symbolic Passover celebrated and below is the recipe for Matza.

UNLEAVENED BREAD
1 1/2 c whole wheat flour
1/2 c white flour
2 Tablespoons White Crisco

Mix the above like cornmeal.

Add the following:
3/4 c cold water
3 Tablespoons honey

Mix and roll out flat on a floured surface dividing equally into 3 parts. Make 3 large circles.
Bake on a lightly greased pan 12-15 min
At 350 degrees

Today was a wonderful day drinking hot cocoa and discussing ancients texts. The 5th grade students answered: “Who would you rather be friends with: Aeneas or Odysseus? Why?” Students were arguing back and forth trying to decide whether it would be better to have tricky Odysseus as a friend, or Aeneas. “If you were friends with Odysseus, he could trick you into drinking into poison, he is so tricky.” Yes, that is true.

Spellbinding Moments in French Opera

“Thank you for inviting me to the opera. It was really wonderful,” said a student the day following the performance. The general feedback was that it was ‘really good’ and ‘I’m surprised I liked it.’ Also: “My favorite part was the song about the veils” and “The Guillotine scene was scary!” It really left an impact to start the night off with love songs and to end the night with a song about the death of the Carmelite nuns during the French Revolution. Overall it was a big success!
